A clear-eyed view of how I lead products, manage expectations, and build high-trust engineering cultures.
I start with the data, then I find the people.
Before any conversation, I look at what the numbers are already telling me and form a hypothesis about what the real problem is, not what someone thinks it is. Then I run that through user interviews to see if the qualitative story matches. When both point the same direction, I bring it to stakeholders and engineering. In that order, for a reason.
Disagreement is fine. Ego isn't.
When there's pushback, my first move is to genuinely understand the other side, not defend my position. I'll map out the pros and cons and look for facts underneath the opinions. What I care about at the end is that whatever we commit to moves the product forward. It doesn't need to be my idea to get my full support.
Engineering is in the room from day one.
I don't hand specs over a wall. I want engineers involved while we're still figuring out the problem, not just after we've decided the solution. What I ask for in return is full transparency, especially when something won't work the way I think it will. Undercommit and overdeliver, not the other way around.
We ship when the team believes it's time.
There's the roadmap, the market, and the team. When all three point at the same moment, we go. User testing gives early signals, but the real gut check is whether everyone who built this thing believes it's ready.
I'm not as easy-going as I look.
New colleagues usually read me as open and agreeable, and I am, genuinely. I give full trust upfront. But it's on the other person to maintain it. People who mistake openness for softness tend to figure out the difference pretty quickly.
